Piazza della Signoria — Florence Visit Guide
An open-air art gallery
The square is home to Palazzo Vecchio, the Neptune Fountain and the Loggia dei Lanzi sculptures.
What to see and do
Walk around the square, view the outdoor statues, and admire the palace exterior.
A little history
Piazza della Signoria has been a focus of Florentine civic life for centuries. Palazzo Vecchio was the seat of government, and the nearby Loggia dei Lanzi became a remarkable open-air setting for sculpture, including Cellini’s bronze Perseus.
Suggested visit: 25–40 minutes
Start with the tall tower of Palazzo Vecchio, look for the Neptune Fountain, and then explore the statues beneath the Loggia dei Lanzi. You can enjoy much of the art from the square without entering a museum. Take your time before continuing towards the Arno.

- Stop at the Neptune Fountain and the statues near the palace entrance.
- Continue to the covered Loggia dei Lanzi for the open-air sculptures.
