← Florence guide home

About this place

Former Medici residence housing major art collections including the Palatine Gallery.

What to see and do

Choose selected gallery rooms and take rest breaks.

Self-guided walking tour · about 105 minutes

Follow these suggested stops at your own pace. This is a flexible guide rather than a booked guided tour.

  1. Begin in the palace courtyard and ask staff for the simplest lift-access route.
  2. Explore a manageable selection of rooms in the Palatine Gallery.
  3. Look for major paintings and the richly decorated rooms, taking breaks as needed.
  4. Finish through the main courtyard before lunch or the garden visit.

Easier option: Pitti Palace has lifts, but the entrance from Pitti Square is steep. Royal Apartments tours require their own timed reservation.

Private palace and garden tours with an art historian can be booked through independent providers, but prices vary considerably. Check the operator’s total for two people, admission inclusions, meeting point and whether the guide can use a shorter itinerary. Without a guide, the official advance combined Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens ticket is €25 per person (€50 for two).
